| IBM notebook not recognizing compact flash card Apologies if this has been discussed before, but my search was unrevealing.
My CF cards (Sandisk, Lexar) plugged into a PC card adaptor were always recognized by a Toshiba Tecra 780 running Win 95 - and still are - and get assigned a drive letter when put in. However, I have an IBM Thinkpad T20 which recognizes them (I can see it under system and in the tray) - but does not assign a drive letter. In other words, they are unreadable.
When I bought a Lexar 256 MB card with a USB Jumpshot cable, this was not a problem.
I have now ordered a Viking 1 GB card and feel that the same non-assignment of drive letter will occur (confirmed with all the existing cards).
I remember contacting Sandisk, IBM as well as Microsift then - and each blamed it on the other company/companies. It seems to me that the problem must be Win 98 or IBM since the cards are assigned drive letters on the Toshiba.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
