diamond ring for my wife

After some nagging by one of my drag racing buddies I finally sent a few old photos into a competition for the best shot of this car. The catagory range of photography is from amateur+ to pro. I entered these in the pro (of course).

These two have been selected for the finals and I must resize them to "30x40 landscape" for display at the Queensland National Gallery by Thursday night so that I can send them Friday then they may print them off early the following week.
"I'm just too flat out with work but I gotta get it done"

The major prize is 'one big diamond' (I can't remember how many carats but I think it's 'two carat')... there are other prizes... but I've already won either way. The advertising value of the display is enough for me really.
I must say that I actually think the shots are ordinary.

A nice big diamond set to a ring for my beautiful wife after twenty years... maybe she'll let me buy some more camera gear or lenses.

I like both shots. Nice work.

Are you asking for help with the resizing?

Good luck winning that rock!

Nice shots. Hope you win the Diamond!

You thinking of using Genuine Fractals for the upsampling? That plugin would probably work particularly well on this kind of image.

Re: diamond ring for my wife

I've placed the original files on a CD and I'm going to my printer for some help with the re-sizing.

I've never had to make a poster that big while the files are jpegs from my D2h.
I do have a 20x30 on display in my office of a model I think will be famous one day. (I got her to sign it, she's from the best agency in Australia where I do get a bit of work when I ask for it)
My printer has commented that he's surprised my shots don't break up even at that size from such a small file. The magazines I work for just tell me to send them untouched original files and then they do whatever they like to them, then they send me a cheque.

If anyone would like to offer a little help please write slowly... Noel, is there a website I can download that software from?

I think that at that size there will be a noise issue. The photos I display here have only been touched a little in LEVELS then through Noiseware Pro.

Bill.

Genuine Fractals is available from: onOne Software
It's an innovative (though it's been around a long while) upsampling tool.

What ppi value does the printer prefer? Asked another way, what size is your original, in pixels, and what size do you want for the image to be printed?

I'll be happy to help out with the upsampling if you'd like.

Re: diamond ring for my wife

The only instruction is that the files should be 300dpi and 30x40 landscape ready.

Those files are 2464 across by 1632 pixels down uncropped as usual I only use photos which are framed/exposed successfuly and discard the rest. I don't know for sure what I'm gonna do to get the right result but I know that the judges will need to see the same picture they judged, meaning a similar level of contrast and noise results as the internet files I sent.

Adding contrast with LEVELS covers noise from certain sections of a photo but places noise in other areas. I don't know how they'll look at 30x40.

It's 9.00am here South West of Sydney so I have all day now that I've reshuffeled all other appointments. I'm gonna give my printer a call.

I will download that software Noel, I'm being asked more often for big photos for display by clients.
My internet host won't download files bigger than 4meg, though I have recovered files sent to me up to 8meg. I feer that if you try to help (which would be great)... I won't be able to receive the files back through my email.

The traffic will have died down by now...

Sounds like 9000 x 12000 pixels to me, and quite a bit more square than your images. You'll have to crop some to fit them into 30 x 40.

I can easily send files of up to 100 MB through YouSendIt.com (the same service I'm using to provide the Raw files for the Raw challenge, et. al. threads). Then you just download them as you would any image off the web.

If you'd like to eMail (or YouSendIt) the originals I'll be happy to put them through the Genuine Fractals software. The ones in your gallery are downsized.
