I've shot cycling for a number of years. At a pro criterium for example I find that the likes of Robbie McEwen or Cadel Evans won't be buying, but I might get a sale from the local guy who just happens to be in the same photo as the Tour de France idols. But better still, the support races for B and C grades and Juniors (if you have them) will usually generate some business. I give a few images each year to the local club which organises the event for their future marketing. In return they regularly announce over the PA that I am present and my website for image viewing. Podium shots do as well as the action. It can be helpful if the podium is placed in a tricky lighting situation: the Mum's and Dad's shots don't work too well so they fall back on mine!
