face detection technology

any ideas to how the PS cameras face detection feature works?

so it seems it does work preatty well...i thought it just prioritized focus to center frame and nearest object, which for 90% of the PS market is people, always centered.

I does work well for both focus and exposure! I bought the Canon Powershot G9 about a month ago as a carry around camera. Canon claims it's technology can detect up to 35 faces! I have found that it even detects faces printed in magazines or displayed on my monitor.
