Bread and Circuses

As I look at the first page of this Soap Box forum, what I find striking is that nearly all the posts fall under the category of "I want what I want, I want it for free, and manufacturers have a moral obligation to it to me for as long as I want it."

One topic is different: Photographers appear to be unwilling to give editors and art designers the same "I want what I want, and I want it for free" rights that they demand for themselves. Hmm.

Re: Bread and Circuses

Great point.

I have noted that the most sucessful people "want what I want, for free, right now" and that the less sucessful may want the same things , but don't persist.

Those same people are entirely uninterested in your observation as it doesn't get them any closer to what they want and is therefore irrelevant.

Depends on what you consider "successful." In terms of simply money and power, I'm sure you're right. Some people prefer to maintain a coherently virtuous ethical philosophy, however.

Kirk, you are absolutely right. But why does it surprise you?

Re: Bread and Circuses

Kirk

Quite right. I am using "sucessful" in an ironic sense. However, achieving goals (I want what I want) requires persistence( didn't get it? ask again), focus ( I am not interested in what you are saying, listen to me , this is important) Passion ( this is the most important thing to me, everything is less important) Drive ( I am not too tired to whine some more).

In more socially acceptable behavior this can achieve socially positive results. ( I am going to put my family first and not work 15 hours overtime or I am going to find enough donors to fund a cure for xxx).

The sad truth is that if we are not industrious in going after what we want, it is unlikely to happen. Selfish or altruistic.

Regards,

Mark
