Re: How can Nikon reverse negative sentiment?

[ QUOTE ]
this embarassing response to Adobe

[/ QUOTE ]

I read the Nikon public statement re: white balance. I want to make sure I understand what it's really saying. It seems to say "We provide an SDK to decode proprietary Nikon RAW files and if you use that you'll get the right white balance. The SDK is the only way to correctly decode Nikon RAW files. If you want to write your own RAW decoder, tough -- it's a proprietary Nikon file format and we're not telling."

Do I have that right?

Mathew

Hi Karl

[ QUOTE ]
What PR firm do you recommend Nikon seek professional advice from?

[/ QUOTE ]

PR is of little use when the story's no good.

Nikon needs to change their story.

[1] Openly document all RAW formats, past present and future. Including
full documentation of encryption techniques where used.

[2] Listen to customers. Converse with customers. Do not stonewall
or talk down to customers.

LOL. I know it wasn't meant to be funny, but pleeeeease, you're talking about Nikon, the company that is well versed in ignoring their customers and suffers from righteous indignation like no other organization. Sorry, but that is the main reason I abandoned Nikon last year after being tired of their ignoring (notice how close it is to ignorance?) their loyal and faithful customers.

Nikon cannot, will not and doesn't give a hoot about their customer sentiment. They march to the beat of their own drummer and could care less what you think. If you think I'm wrong show me an example of anything that Nikon has done to reverse any negative publicity. What do they do? They ignore the customer and hope that things will die down. They (the Nikon executives) are an amazing group of people that I feel have a superiority complex (opinion only). Problem is; that can't reverse it by introducing a product every few months or so!

Re: How can Nikon reverse negative sentiment?

I was three in the nikon golden years of the f and f2 so stand to be corrected

At this time the BRAND was formed (mainly by Don Mcs 'bullet stopping nikon') but also by being genine good pro kit that did not pack up

I think an F cost around £300 - in a time when a Jaguar E-type cost £1300 !

The F series was true pro kit with a price to reflect

I have just bought a Hassy Eyelike combo - it cost a good proportion of the cost of a new Jag - I expect pro level feedback and support - whether I get I will find out when the going gets sticky

Nikon is now a CONSUMER BRAND- living off the brand created all that time ago, you can tell they are a consumer brand - they dont charge 'car' prices

Thier pro line is nothing more than an attempt to keep the brand alive so they sell more compacts and d50s - and a test bed for the technology that will be used in the replacements to these cameras

--

To be a happy Nikon user I think is simple

- understand that they are a consumer brand that sells products that dont cost CAR prices

- evaluate those products

- consider them to be disposable

- if you like them buy them

- if you dont dont

--

I bought 2 d100s and thought the price/pixels to be a great offer at the time - I did not buy a D1h at that time - very happy

I will not buy a D2x

I will buy the same chip in a D80? when it becomes available for $800

--

This is the soap box so waffling allowed..

Also pro phots should revel in the fact that consumer priced products have failings, this keeps the entry level to being a pro higher - keeping low ballers out of the industry and stablising prices - good consumer priced kit is a threat to pro photography!

--

So to conclude and respond to "How can Nikon reverse negative sentiment"

I, for one, dont have any negative sentiment towards nikon

I am concerned however by products like the excellent Canon D20 that invite low ballers into the industry

(Low balling is another soap box topic for the future)
