Did anyone see the enormous difference in price between an upgrade in the States and Europe?
I'm talking about prices excluding VAT. In the States you pay $ 149 and in Europe you have to pay an equivalent amount of $ 217. Which is almost 50% more expensive! Even the price in Euro € 169 exceeds the dollar price.

Let's face it. Adobe is an American Co. If they can turn a larger profit in Europe to offset the cost of doing business there, they will.
If you've ever picked up a UK computer magazine, you'll often see that the price of things is essentially the same. Meaning, it seems as though the Dollar sign was simply swapped with the Pound sign: 150 Dollars = 150 Pounds. I've always wondered about that.
As a note, I rarely bother with a carnet when I go to Europe with my equipment these days. As a customs inspector recently told me, they photo equipment is much cheaper in the USA than in most of the world, with the exception of the Far East.

You' re kidding?
I did receive today an offer for the update, by mail - from a well-known store; its 219 % on the US price, or something near 330 $. At the german Adobe's shop, its 385 $, in Italy as well.
NO kidding, though....
As I upgrated a few months ago to CS, I'm considering to wait on CS-3.

When I checked the local price for an upgrade here in Australia to buy the original CS, it was something like $360.00 Australian, whereas US$149.00 converted to something like $200 Australian at the time.
I wrote to Adobe here in Australia asking how they could have the effrontery/cheek/gall/barefaced audacity to charge so much here when it was so much cheaper in the US. I no longer have the reply email but I recall it saying that the Australian version comes in a box whereas the US upgrade was a download only.
Obviously they had no real reason to charge so much extra other than the fact that they could, so they did. Don't get me wrong, I think Photoshop is a great program, it just really annoys me that Adobe thinks it is fine to sell their product in the US for one price and then rip-off photographers in other parts of the world, simply because they can.

Comon Noel... you should be used to it by now. Everywhere I go to buy something, the first reaction to price is always "how much?!", "what did you say?".
Lucky I don't need the upgrade for the moment.

"Simply because they can.."? That's just it. It's time they realized they're getting too cocky on this one. I trust you've read my gripes on this one too. Let's all get together constructively and tell 'em what's what. The easy way out is what's really happening out there: people are sticking two fingers up at Adobe and using copies. I think this is unfair to the guys who have left their brains on the project, don't you?

Actually, it wasn't -- the US CS upgrade came in a box. You could order it online from Adobe for US$149, but it had to be physically shipped. It came with a printed manual.
