AFAIK This is incorrect. The manufacturer, unless you buy direct, has no liability outside of safety issues in England & Wales. The Sales of Goods Act, The Sales of Good and Services Act and subsequent updates all put liability for things like "fitness" and the like on the vendor. There is also a time limit, based on the expected lifetime of a product, of 6 years.
