After shooting with my new D2X for a day as a member of the working daily press, I find the new baby a very pleasant tool. I have read my fellow Norwegian Bjorn Rorsletts review and knowing him as a Nikon ambassador, but with a strong affinity to criticising whatever he puts under scrutiny, and my day of shooting has nothing but confirmed that his compliments are doing the D2X justice. Hairsplitting over focallengths, Canon comparisons, the carracter of noise etc . asside, I would say the D2X works fine for newspaper work. Coming for D2H I find my jpgs now much more right and pleasing in colour, the noise in the high ISO-department (800) is no longer intrusive and I love the ability to crop in big files. The need for shooting RAW has been minimised to difficult light situations. I find the medium size alternative (3216x2136 pixels) an attractive option putting speed to my workflow and taking heat of storing capacity. Not all assigmenst need to be shot for a double tabloid spread. The crop function in camera works fine, but needs a bit practise to be mastered when the action heats up. What is equally important to me is the signal the D2X gives that Nikon again has momentum in the digital race and that I can fully utilize my big investment in Nikon glass, accessories and handling skills.
