For those of you not part of the Nielsen family, as of Jan. 2005, here are a few tidbits:

[*]After 20 years, Nielsen is ceasing the research of professional photographers.[*]Their studies separated pros into two groups: "Portrait/Social Photographers" (PSP) & "Commercial Photographers" (CP).[*]14% of PSPs are 100% digital.[*]10% of CPs are 100% digital.[*]78% of PSPs use a computer, up from 71% a year ago.[*]95% of CPs use a computer, up from 92% a year ago.[*]75% of PSPs use a digital camera, up from 59% a year ago. Of those, 100% have/use a digital SLR.[*]88% of CPs use a digital camera, up from 74% a year ago. Of those, 87% have/use a digital and 25% have/use a digital back.[*]43% of PSPs use a scanner.[*]71% of CPs use a scanner.[*]48% of PSPs use an in-house photo printer.[*]79% of CPs use an in-house photo printer.[*]23% of PSPs use Macintosh computers.[*]76% of CPs use Macintosh computers.[*]Most popular request from PSPs: Labs need to allow for 100% digital workflow via internet.[*]Most popular request from CPs: Color Management among studios & clients needs to be required.[/list]

Nielsen is a great group and I've participated in the past. I wish, however, they could come up with better groupings than: "Portrait/Social Photographers" (PSP) & "Commercial Photographers" (CP). I'm a photojournalist who also shoots some commercial stuff. Maybe a breakdown like: Wedding/Portrait; Advertising/Commercial; Photojournalist/Editorial--aww, you know. Just my two cents.
