Canon...love it but...

Does anyone find it a problem seeing the red dot on the Canon lenses in low light...ur umm why not a white dot?

And like other post.. Please more L and IS lenses please,

mabye a 24-70 f4.0l IS or a 70-200 f4.0L IS?

these lenes would sell to pros and prosumers,

and like they have had with the 16-35 f.28L vs 17-40 f4.0L being a gnote difference....

Re: Canon...love it but...

red dots, as in where to mount the lenses in the right dirtection?

for the L IS thing - you'll never see a 24-70L IS lens... what the hell would you need it for? in thereoy you need to have a shutter speed at least as fast as your final focal length to prevent camera shake. w/ a 24-70 f/2.8L if your shooting @ 24mm and you can't get a shutter speed of at least 1/30th - something is terribly wrong hand holding - even for very dim stuff... and seeing that short of a zoom range w/ L glass and the bulk of IS - i dont even want to think about the weight... that is already one of canon's most popular lenses and also one of the most popular to bash due to the weight of it

Red light is better to preserve \"night vision\"

First off, I'd like to say that I've never used any of the equipment you've discussed.

What caught my attention is the *red* light you describe in low lighting. Red is a color which has traditionally been used, especially in the military, to preserve "night vision". There is a technical explanation at this website.

Here's an example:
If you are using telescope pointing to the sky, and you wanted to read a guide book about the constellations, you should read the book with a *red* flashlight. Using a *white* light would make the transition from stargazing to reading your book much harder. It would take a longer time for your eyes to adjust .

I could see this situation when you're shooting in low light. Reading your settings with red light might be better if you wanted to preserve your vision for focus, composition, or not tripping over your camera bag.

Just a thought...

I would love it for framing through the viewfinder while photographing boats. Also for more stable blur-motion shots.

Re: Canon...love it but...

in low light the red dot on the lens becomes invisible, white would show up much better, I have pondered painting my
dots white......

after using a EF 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 II USM
I found it amazing to drag my shutter down to 1/15th ( e.g. ) to catch the ambient while using
flash, but with my 28-70 f2.8 or 16-35 f2.8 the results are not as constant at those low speeds, but the 28-105
has some flare and other non L issues

this is my experience / concerns / requests

The red dot is raised so that in darkness you can feel it and more easily line up the lens to the body.

Sorry. It now appears I had no idea what you were describing. Ooops.

Interesting bit of trivia though...
