Pros: Small size, light weight, image stabilizer, pretty good color and contrast rendering
Cons: Other than f/4.5-5.6 nothing significant.

I've owned this lens nearly since it was introduced in 2004. It's one of the lenses that I'm truly grateful to have and would greatly miss. It's really one-of-a-kind, even today. If you need a light, compact lens capable of long reach you'd be very challenged to find a better lens. It asks very little in the way of compromise.

I am a bit surprised that Canon has not pursued the diffractive optics (DO) lens design beyond this lens and the 400mm prime. I imagined that DO would represent the future of much of Canon's long-lens designs.
