Cons:
|
dust magnet; sensor cleaning required; heavy, especially with any "L" series lenses; selecting some operations requires pressing two buttons simultaneously; EXPENSIVE!

Shooting RAW is the way to go with this computer. It can give you acceptable photos right out of the camera, if you set the parameters correctly for in-camera processing. However, in my experience, it will not give you the sharp results, straight from the camera you might see from a comparable Nikon. The starting point recommendation for RAW images is to (in Photoshop) set sharpening amount to 300%, radius .3, threshold 0 - this seems to compensate fairly well for the filter that sits on top of the Canon sensor; as always, your mileage may vary. I have approx 14,000 exposures with my example and sensor cleaning (physical cleaning, there is no "shaking sensor" type cleaning available in this model) is usually required around the 1200 exposure mark. One thought on this 'new' idea that some shaking apparatus connected to the sensor is going to alleviate dust on the sensor - where is the stuff going to go? Also, the reason dust is difficult to remove from these sensors is the physical attraction that goes on - it isn't just sitting there! Bottom line reads, unless you need poster sized enlargements, there are many digital models out there that will match or exceed the product from this camera - at a much smaller impact on your pocketbook! Does it do an excellent job, yes; could it, should it, do better for the price - yes!
