Pros: size, focus speed, build quality
Cons: VR (I hate it) softer than the 80-200?

This a true pro lense. I bought it for shooting swimming at the Canada summer games and was not disapionted. Indoor swimming is the amungst the hardest things to shoot, low light, water dropplets everwhere and 8 lanes need a tool that is fast focusing and has a big aperture.
Also the fact that it is physically smaller that is predisessor make this a must have for all pro's.
I also use this lense for weddings, it is particularly good for 'candids' at indoor locations.
The colour produced by this glass is stellar and it is nearly as sharp as the great 80-200, but it does fosus a little faster so this almost more important than sharpness for us sport guys.
I just wish I had the option of a 70-200 with no VR and it would be perfect.

Pros: Sharp, great ergonomics, fast focusing, VR
Cons: None

I use this lens a lot and I really like it. The VR is useful in dark situations, but leave it turned off for everything else
