iPhoto 09 was introduced at MacWorld, yesterday. The main new chunks of technology in iPhoto are:
- face detection
- face recognition
- geotagging with web service integration (for map-production)
The expression of these technologies in iPhoto pertain to the organization of photos (i.e., creating metadata and filtering photo collections based upon them) and their presentation (making nice maps for books and even animated maps for video presentations).
While the implementations of these technologies in iPhoto 09 have a decidedly
consumer orientation, it doesnt take a lot of imagination to see how they might make its way into Aperture 3. The utility of face recognition to ease metadata creation is pretty obvious. A less obvious example is using face detection to more intelligently crop photos in automatic print layouts (such as with books).
More detailed descriptions, including demo videos, are available on
the apple site.
