Bridge seems to crash (‘Stop Responding’) rather frequently under Vista 64, usually when updating the Bridge images after closing ACR (vs 4.6).
If ACR is used from Bridge to make edits to multiple raw images and then those images are opened from ACR in PS Bridge will crash very frequently.
If the ACR edits are just saved (use the Done button) Bridge rarely crashes. If those images are then opened in ACR and then in PS from ACR without additional edits in ACR, Bridge rarely crashes.
Perhaps there is some file handling problems between Bridge and ACR/PS that show up when both Bridge and ACR/PS are actively reading the same raw/xmp files.
Another issue I’ve noticed with Bridge is that it will not give the right-click menu option to open a raw file in ACR if the file is copied into the folder Bridge currently has open by Windows Explorer …at least not all the time. When this happens closing and reopening Bridge does not fix the problem. If the option to open in PS is used then ACR does open the file but this does not fix the problem for this file in Bridge. We are talking cr2 raw files straight out of a 1Ds Mk III body here.
This conforms and extends the issue reported earlier by Walter Kimmel.
In order to get Bridge to give the option to open the file in ACR the file must be copied to another folder via Windows Explorer, then have Bridge delete the file, close Bridge, copy the copy back into the original folder, open Bridge and now things work as they should …very strange, probably an issue with the Bridge database.
Finally, one more issue. Sometimes Bridge does not recognize a psd file as a psd file and as a result does not display the image in Bridge. PS must create a new version of the file before Bridge will show the image in Bridge.

Upgrading to Bridge CS4 may solve your problem. There have been several changes to improve performance including embedding previews in Raw files to speed up viewing.
From what you are describing, you are probably experiencing the memory limitation of CS3 causing system crashes.
CS4 is also 64 bit when run on Vista 64 and will allow you to use all of the memory installed in your computer.
Jerry, I rather expect you are right. I wanted the 1Ds Mk III body and some lenses before moving to CS4. I have the 64bit/8Gig ram computer already.
Since the crashes don't affect Vista 64 I just open Bridge again. I'd be real unhappy if this was a PS issue but Bridge doesn't really do any processing and I use LR 2.x for larger jobs.
I'm still testing the 1Ds Mark III and the new lenses.

Jerry... Sorry, I seem to have forgotten to mention in my original post that I'm already running Adobe Web Premium CS4 and LR 2.x (whatever the latest point release is).
Only LR and PS are 64 bit at this time and most of the plugins for PS require the 32 bit version so I have both installed as Noel suggested in another thread. So I seem to be switching between PS 32 and PS 64 a lot.
However, both versions of PS do the same thing when they are loaded --which extends the load process noticeably.

Oops… I seem to have gotten confused here, this is not the post I thought it was.
I did not have CS4 when I originally posted but I do now. I haven’t seen the issues with Bridge since installing CS4 but I haven’t actually worked with it much yet.
