Luminous Landscape Guide to Adobe Camera RAW

I recently acquired and watched this latest video tutorial from Jeff Schewe and Michael Reichmann. I feel these guys are getting better and better at these videos: this is the best one yet, and I suspect darn near everybody on this forum will get considerable value out of watching this video. Even if you don't use Camera RAW at all, you're likely to learn a great deal about RAW data and what can (and cannot) be done with it. I consider myself a pretty competent handler of RAW data, but I learned quite a bit while also benefitting from the overall review of the subject. This tutorial is—for obvious reasons—really Jeff Schewe's baby; Reichmann's role is mainly in steering and oversight. Also included is interesting interview footage with Tom Knoll, who explains "why things are as they are" in both Photoshop and ACR. The series costs $40 and runs about 8 hours, but it's chopped into 10 to 20 minute "bite sized" segments.

Plus, you get to hear Jeff Schewe say "poop load" at least three times. (The tension of self-restraint is etched across his face through the entire eight hours.)

I'd somewhat agree. In my case though I compare it to the two other biggies they did, the "Lightroom" tutorial and the "Camera to Print".

For me personally, I rate them in order from knowledge gained 1) Camera to Print 2) Lightroom, 3) ACR guide.

This is not because the ACR tutorial is weak(on the contrary!), I just came to the table knowing more about ACR than Lightroom. And "Camera to Print" I think has lots of interesting and sometimes vital tips you can't just pick up from owning a few books. And it covers such a broad area.

The ACR tutorial is probably the most polished. And I still will have to replay the sharpening part over a few times, as I find it to be the most confusing part of ACR for me. You have to remember that I've had the most practice with ACR, since I've been using it since it first came out with pshop.

All three however, excellent and worth the $$$.

I'm about half-way through ACR videos and find them to be well done, entertaining and informative.

The tutorial is definitely worth the investment.
