Lightroom 1.4

Lightroom 1.4 has been released, allegedly sporting three (3) acknowledged bug fixes and support for nine new cameras (ACR has likewise been updated).

Other than the new camera support, the biggest news is an attempt to fix the printing problems that have plagued many users of Lightroom under OS X Leopard. Adobe doesn't go into any detail about what has been changed, stating only "Compatibility with legacy printer drivers on OS X 10.5 (Leopard) has been updated." Initial posts by users on the Adobe forums suggest that many—but perhaps not all—such users will find relief with 1.4.

I guess Adobe must be going great guns on Lightroom 2.0, since 1.4 is such a narrowly focused update. Wouldn't we all like to know when that might arrive?

Re: Lightroom 1.4

Note: Adobe has pulled both the Lightroom 1.4 update and the corresponding ACR update due to bugs. Users are advised to not upgrade, and if they have already done so, to uninstall the update and revert to the previous release.

Oops.

Re: Lightroom 1.4

I can confirm that. I've had two meltdowns both times I have tried to use the new 1.4.

Re: Lightroom 1.4

I think this is why open betas are good. If Adobe had released 1.4 as a beta for a couple weeks beforehand, they would have saved us all this grief.

Re: Lightroom 1.4

An apology from the Lightroom team for the 1.4 fiasco.

If you'd like to see open Lightroom beta releases, consider leaving a comment to that effect. (Leave your comment on the apology page, not here.)

Re: Lightroom 1.4

Might not be a bad idea to have dot release public beta's. I'll ping my sources inside Adobe and see what they think. For one, they might feel most wouldn't put in much effort in testing and reporting because there's no new functionary although such issues we've just seen would be discovered and no one could blame them since its a beta. The other might be keeping track of reports if things went the other way. What might be idea is a public beta via sign up, then all conducted in the existing Adobe UtoU forums.

Re: Lightroom 1.4

What would be the difference, except that the team would then have to apologize for the mess created with version 1.4 beta rather than with 1.4 final.
