I haven't had 1.4 crash, just some weird metadata behavior. I've processed RAW's into TIF's with no problem. Should I stop using 1.4?

You could probably use it until you experienced a problem. Who knows, you may not. I just got through reverting to the previous version.

The only known issues are the metadata problem and (Windows only) the problem of not converting to DNG. If you can live with that, there is no reason to go back. The only problem could be (if Adobe is sloppy again) that the new 1.4 version won't update your version because it thinks that is already done. In that case you would have to downgrade first before you can upgrade.
