Good testimony by James Duncan Davidson on Aperture 2.0.
I don't currently plan to switch back to Aperture from Lightroom, but I do plan to purchase an Aperture 2 upgrade on principle, and I'm looking for a new project I can separately run through Aperture from soup to nuts.

I broke down and purchased the full version of Aperture 2.0. It updated my older version with no problems. The tethering function does work without any third party software. Processing images is easier now with the tools better organized for smooth workflow. The print quality seems to have improved (printing to the iPF5000) and it accepts the paper profiles created with PrintFix Pro displaying accurate previews. Raw file support for the newer cameras was the main reason I decided to upgrade. Dual monitor support is also a plus, but this is not a new feature for Aperture.

I've been running the demo version all week, and I have to admit that I'm really liking it. I've put four small weddings and two weeks of newspaper shots through it, about 2500 shots in total, and here are my thoughts
It's a lot cleaner in layout, a big improvement there.
It's a lot faster, even on my dated G5 iMac. It crunches the previews and imports noticably quicker.
I love being able to do custom keyboard short cuts. Two of my most common tasks, sepia tone and the straighten window, don't have native keyboard short cuts. Before I had to go looking through the menus, now I can just do the short cut. Doesn't sound like much, but stretch it over a few hundred photos, and it make a big difference.
I'm loving it too!! I upgraded my MacBook Pro last night. It upgraded without issue and everything with my library worked straight off. This morning it was the MacPro's turn which has a larger library - again, very smooth and without issue.
It really is so much faster and smoother running. I really like the design too - it really uses screen size much better (really crucial on my laptop).
I haven't put much through it yet, but so far, I'm really very impressed by it. Superb!!
It does, with a twist. You can import a folder and tell it not to import already imported images again. That is essentially what Lightroom's 'synchronize folder' does.
