Jerry:
It save save the image. A complex box comes up, anyway, I just clicked save. An icon on lower left spins, took forever. like three minutes for just three images.
I wanted to force quit, but could not becuase the ACR window blocks my dock. Any way to move the ACR window once you are in it other than canceling out? and how to I change the size of that window again?
I hit cancel, and my changes, even after the "save" were not kept.

You can Alt Click the Save button, and it bypasses the dialog box. However, it will save the file as whatever was indicated in the dialog box, which of course you wouldn't see if you Alt Clicked it. My dialog box was defaulted to DNG format, and that's what was saved when I clicked it. So if you look around, you might find the file in DNG format somewhere. (Where, is also in the dialog box that would be bypassed). I don't know why it took so long. Mine saved fairly fast.
It could be the ACR window is toggled to Full Screen, which would be why you couldn't resize the window. Up in the right corner there is a button, by Preview, where you can toggle Full Screen or Partial Screen. When the window is not full screen you can resize it in the normal way.
Cancel is cancel. There are not going to be any changes kept when you click Cancel. I think you'll probably find the saved file in another format somewhere on your disk. If you try another Save, the dialog box will pop up, and you can see what location is there for saving files. That's probably where your saved file is.

I don't know what type of machine you are working on, but it sounds like you are having memory issues. Either not enough ram or no assigned scratch disk. The save button does open a dialog box allowing you to choose what file format to save and where to save. The default is the same file location as the original RAW file. My machine takes only a few seconds to save a 14 mb RAW file as a PSD.

You can't actually save to a RAW file. ACR must convert the file to another file format. You can save the settings you used in the RAW converter and apply them to a different RAW file. For example; I created my own settings for the Canon G9 since it is not yet officially supported by ACR 4.2. Now when I open a RAW file from the G9 I can select the saved setting with all the adjustments and just fine tune for the specific image.
