I think neither the histogram nor the blinking clipped highlights will give you a good idea about the clipped channels. Only moving the cursor around on the image will give you the best information about how the different channels are clipped.

I find it very useful seeing how clipped highlights change on across the white background as I adjust the exposure in ACR. The absolute values may slightly off, but it gives a clear indication of the changes as I adjust exposure up and down.
