Need large file when converting

Newbie, sore of, here so be gentle. I am starting to do some photos on my own, did work for a photographer and need help. Am shooting in RAW, when I convert I can either use photoshop cs or zoom browser. My files need to be large for 8x10 and 11x14 but I am seeing pixalation,is that a word, in my large prints. What is the best way to convert and how do you keep the file large as not to lose anthing. Also is there good reading to help me on this, I am lost on this part. Thanks in advance. Also I just pulled a picture into photoshop one was a tif file and the same picture was raw, the raw looked washed out, what is up with that.

Are you sure you weren't printing the embedded thumbnail? You don't say what camera you're using or what raw converter.

No, I was not using the thumbnail. I am using a Canon G2, and transfering them to photoshop. I also am using Canon zoombrowser but mainly take them into photoshop. I just need to know how to keep the file big so I can do the larger prints. When I take it into photoshop the file will say dpi 240 at 9x12 I believe. What is the proper way to go from camera to photoshop.

Re: Need large file when converting

My first problem was the camera was not set correctly, when I found that out I did fix the problem. Now I am a little nervous as to do this shoot again. I want it to be correct. I have the camera set correctly now but want to make sure when I do go from camera to photoshop "what are the correct steps to make sure I can get a picture perfect picture." I want a file big enough for the large prints. The 4x6 come out great but that is not what I want. Please help me get the steps down pat.

Re: Need large file when converting

The G2 is 4mp so as long as you stay native size (2272x1704) you should be able to print fine up to 8x10 or even 11x14. Just let the resolution float as needed (don't check the 'resample' box) when sizing or printing. If you do choose to resample, make sure you've got the resolution set so that actual pixel dimensions increases rather than decreases.
