C1 and \"delete immediately\" function

Hello,

Just did a BIG mistake. While Batch processing C1 got stuck, I've selected all images in the batch process window (the last window to the right) and pressed "delete immediately" thinking it would only cancel the processing but in fact it deleted the images in the entire folder !

Remained calm and looked inside the trash. I cannot find them anywhere, is there a chance to find them somewhere else ?

Thanks for your help (of course this is one of the only job I have not backed up).

S.

Re: C1 and \"delete immediately\" function

Simon,

I am assuming you have written over the originals on your CF cards by now? If not, PhotoRescue can recover them. If this is on your hard drive, there are various undelete utilities available. I use O&O Unerase on Windows XP. I assume similar tools are available on the Mac side as well. Make sure you download and install the software to a different disk or partition; you do not want to overwrite the images!

You must be on a Mac. I don't see that function on the PC side

Re: C1 and \"delete immediately\" function

If you are on the Mac, C1 creates its own Trash folder inside the working folder so you should be OK. Sorry I am not on the Mac right now so I can't give you better directions, but why don't you do a quick search in a finder window for one of the images?

Rick he might not know the file name , could you on a Mac search the creation date of the files of that day.

Not that I know of Guy...other than going into list view and sorting by date like in Windows.

Anyway I just had a chance to get to the Mac and I could not duplicate the situation of deleting files from the Process window but I sure found out that "delete immediately" clears out any selected thumbnails and corresponding images with no stop in the Trash bucket. It looks like the only solution may be one of those disk recovery tools. I notice there is one just listed on Version Tracker. Here is the link.

Good luck!

Rick

p.s. You should also try the official C1 support forum...but you've probably already done this.

Re: C1 and \"delete immediately\" function

Thanks a lot for all your suggestions. I've tried various options but the files would not show up. I've not tried to launch a file recovery software as I'd rather not taking the risk to go though the 160GB of my G5 to rescue 80 shots. Might be overly paranoid but the value of this small job is not worth taking the risk putting the entire system down. Will most likely reshoot as it should be possible and quick.

After becoming overly confident this error will act as a sort of wake up call. I MUST stick to the routine of backing up on Hds and Dvds right after each shoot and before starting to edit. As far as I know this is the first time it happens in 18 months. Destroying the equivalent of two rolls of film is annoying but I'll have to live with it.

Thanks again.

Best. S.
