Canon 70 -300 DO Lens and Sharpening

I have just purchased the Canon 70-300 DO lens and have been running some tests. As I expected it is softer than my 70-200mm 2.8 IS and my 24 -70mm 2.8 lenses. However it is a very light and inconspicuous lens and a nice lens to carry around with you.

When I sharpen the image I can get it to equal the detail of the 70-200mm without any apparent artifacts (no halos). Yes, it is more trouble than having a sharp lens takes the picture in the first place, but it seems that I will get shots that I will not be able to with my other lenses – since I probably won’t want to carry my 70 -200 around all the time (like on vacation or shooting street shots).

What else should I be looking for or thinking about?

Neil

Nore: I also posted this on the Canon 10D ... forum - didn't know which forum was more appropiate for this topic.
