Question Help with 4800 roll feed?

I purchased a used 4800 last November and ran sheets through it until late in January when I loaded up a roll and found out it was feeding about 6"" of paper(plus the margin) before starting to print. I've tried the Panel Reset I found in another thread here but no joy. It's been in the shop twice since then for this. The first time the tech reset all the paper layout adjustments with the service software, I took it home and the problem was still there.

Back to the shop. I finally got a call today that it was ready and talked to another tech who said she set the margins to 3mm using the printer menu and it printed all right. Brought it home, set it up(with the 3mm margins) and it still feeds 6" of paper before starting the print.

I found a thread in the Wide format group that suggested setting the printer to sheet feed before loading the roll then changing to roll feed on the printer, I tried this but the printer switches itself to roll automatically then does it's trick.....

Driver settings:

I normally print from Lightroom but the printer does the same thing in CS3 and CaptureNX. No problems at all with margins on the sheet feed, either manual or from the tray.

Windows system, XP Pro SP2, latest drivers, firmware, updates etc.. Can provide more info if anyone needs.

Any help would be appreciated!

TIA,

Bill

Not sure if this would help as I only run cut sheets through my 4800, but what would happen if under "Paper Size" you used user defined(at the bottom(?) of the list?

Re: Help with 4800 roll feed?

Hi Bill,

By chance, is this only on the first print or all? The first print often is ugly this way, but the following prints are fine.

If it occurs on every print, then yes, what Keith said was the next item to check, the default settings in the printer driver.

I am going to assume Windows machine. Go to Control Panel, Printers and then right click 4800, then properties. Set your paper properties to the correct size + just a little unless you want bleed over, and you should be golden. You will need to change it for every size you want to print.

Not the most intuitive or user friendly, hence all the option of rips and other layout software.

Good luck.

Re: Help with 4800 roll feed?

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I did try setting a custom size under User Defined, no joy. I've tried manual cut and no cut, printing multiple copies of the same image and I still get the extra 6" of paper between images.

I'm just using it with sheet paper now. My local store was understanding enough to let me return 2 unopened rolls of paper even though it was 'way past the 30 days they usually allow for returns.

Thanx again,

Bill
