Re: Canon iPF6100 FRUSTRATION!

thx for the answer

am i right that the built in color calibration is only for the dmax and for accuracy and not to build profiles with it?

So i need a third party colorspectrometer?

the price for the printer here in europe is quite interesting... we will see, maybe i will buy it ;-)

have a nice weekend :-)

That's correct as far as I can tell. I was told however, by the Canon reps, that if I stuck with Canon media and their own support for that media, the color accuracy results would be so good that I wouldn't need to invest in custom profiles. I've yet to see this, as the only Canon media I've been able to obtain so far doesn't seem to be directly/immediately supported by this printer.

If we disregard what they told me and consider this just another printer, as far as I can tell, having custom profiles made for the paper you use is without question the best solution. And yes, for that you either have to buy the equipment needed to produce them, or hire someone to make them for you.

Hope this helps...

The Canon paper I did find was effectively mail-order, as it came from about 400 miles away. And they are (so far) the only source I've been able to find (and were recommended as the best source for media directly by the top guy at Canon for this printer).

As far as other mail-order options... a Google search turned up a couple of US suppliers who supposedly have the papers in stock, but they would NOT sell or ship to anyone in Canada! And someone here in this thread jumped in to say he stocked the paper, but after three times asking him if he'd sell to someone in Canada without him replying, I've given up on him as well. (I think he was just trying to get some free publicity for his company with the vastly greater number of US members here.)

In the EU things are very likely easier for you than for us poor Canadians.

Cheers!

Re: Canon iPF6100 FRUSTRATION!

Hi there

thats odd, but i know such things well, i also buy all over the world...

maybe you can try on of the shops in europe... i know the dollar/euro debate but here you maybe get what you want...

here you got one who offers hahnemühle, really good fine art paper in sizes up to 24", fitting the ipf6100... the photo rag, which is i think a quite good paper costs around 200€ for 24" 12meter long... thats about 300 Canadian Dollars...

Photolux GmbH | Hahnemühle | Lumijet | Epson | MyBook | Unibind | Alles für den digitalen Druck! - Papiere / Printmedien

here you have the whole canon paper offering in austria/germany, some of the dealers are mailing worldwide...

Papier Preisvergleich bei Geizhals.at EU

if you need some assistent for reading or finding, just tell me

have a nice sunday

robb

Re: Canon iPF6100 FRUSTRATION!

Hi Robb,

Thanks for your comments, but I'm sure that the shipping costs for rolls of paper (heavy and bulky) would really be too prohibitive to justify a Canadian buying paper in the EU.

I've just found out that a lot of the Epson papers I've been using (on a 2200) are also available in 24" rolls, and for a fairly reasonable cost too - directly from Epson Canada. Since it looks like I'll have to invest in custom profiles anyway, I may as well test out those papers with this printer.

Cheers!

Re: Canon iPF6100 FRUSTRATION!

Eldor, what printer did you have before the 6100? I have a 4800 and I am probably going to replace it with a 24" model. The Epson 7880 and the Canon 6100 are the two I am looking at.

I am a long time Epson user and actually love my 4800 I just need to be able to print wider. The main reason I am even looking at the 6100 is having both PK and MK installed at the same time. As it is now I never use MK because I do not want to waste the ink but I would like to be able to print on some matte papers.
