Re: Canon iPF6100 FRUSTRATION!

Well Peter, other than for these frustrations, I really love the printer and I doubt very much that I'd consider sending it back. I mean if I have to invest in custom profiles I KNOW I'll get great results and would still be most happy with this printer. I love the lack of bronzing I get even on glossy paper and the fact that the gloss and matte black inks stay in the printer all the time.

The only frustration is that the reps misled me with the hype... but most likely that was not intentional at all but rather how Canon sees this printer EVENTUALLY. The printer is just too new... newer than any of the support materials (the Media Guide, profiles, setting recommendations, etc.).

And I've got to say that I'm very impressed with the ink usage so far... I've printed a TON of stuff - 24" x 57" full-color high-res window banners, more than 20 24x36 photos and a whole bunch of test stuff and I'm STILL on the smaller (90ml) starter cartridges except for one color. This is way better than I expected, especially since I was told that the starter inks would be almost depleted just by the filling of the lines and a few prints.

Once I get the profile issue straightened out, I'm sure I'll be very happy. It might not be with Canon media, but with the printer in general I'll be happy.

Cheers!

The profiles are up for both new Canon printers ipf5100 and ipf6100 as of yesterday.

Re: Canon iPF6100 FRUSTRATION!

Kory,

You told me earlier in this thread that you stock the Canon papers for the iPF6100, and I'm now asking you for the third time whether or not you sell/ship to clients in Canada.

I'm looking forward (with bait on my breath! ) to your reply on this.

My overall impression of the printer? I love it! Is there another printer I'd rather have? No!

However...

It's not all a bed of roses either. I'm in Canada, and so far I've been having a really hard time locating anyone to sell me genuine Canon media for it. I've only found one source so far (somewhere in Ontario - I'm in Montreal) and the papers they had seemed to be the least useful to a photographer (the company was more experienced in CAD stuff and as such they admitted that they had probably stocked the wrong mix of paper for this printer - they're new to this area they said).

Bottom line is that other than for one of the papers I'm trying, I don't really have the correct ICC profiles so the colors are close but not correct. I'm SURE that with custom profiles everything will be wonderful.

The ink use is a lot lower than I expected (so far I've printed a TON of stuff and only replaced one of the "starter" inks).

The one paper I'm trying that I'm getting great results with is a Hahnemuhle Photo Rag 188, with a profile for this printer that I got off the Hahnemuhle web site (the Canon version of this profile isn't yet available for download from Canon but supposedly will be soon).

Hope this helps...

Eldor

Have you tried luminous-landscape to post your problems?

Glad you got a laugh, Doug. That was the intention.

No, I haven't posted on Luminous Landscape yet.

Oh, DON'T get me started about our Language Police! (Yes, we REALLY have them!)
