You're welcome, Scotty.

HP must have lost their minds to be asking $9K for the printer.

Good luck with the 9880. I'm sure it will serve you well.

Re: EPSON 9880 or HP Z3100??

I have a Z3100 that I have owned since December and have yet to put into production - Thanks Colorbyte! Drivers for the rip are yet to be released. However, I would not let the spectrophotometer in the Z3100 sway your opinion because it is pretty much worthless. Very low qualtiy. If you want to make accurate profiles, you will need a much better spectrophotometer - trust me on this one.
The HP seems to be much better designed overall, than the Epsons (I also have 9600's and 7600's). When it comes to ink loss - hands down HP - if you do a decent volume, the ink savings alone will offset a lot of cost. Again, as I stated, I have not put the printer into full production, so I can't give my "expert" opinion at this time - just some first impressions from the little work I have ran on the Z3100.

Brian, could you elaborate on why you think the built-in spectro is pretty much worthless?

Re: EPSON 9880 or HP Z3100??

Folkxrock,

Thanks for your input. It is a mute point for me at this point as the Z3100 is WAY over priced here in Jakarta for me to even consider it.

I am going to purchase the EPSON 9800, and I am sure it will be just fine for my needs. I would be interested, like Ron, in knowing why the spectrophotometer is pretty much worthless...

Have you made any prints without the RIP yet? Would be interested in hearing your opinion on the quality of your prints as compared to what you have gotten in the past from your EPSON's....

Re: EPSON 9880 or HP Z3100??

I was just reading through this part of the forum, looking for people printing on HPs, and I just about crapped when Scotty said HP wanted $9K for a Z3100, but then I saw that he's in Indonesia...

We paid a little over $5K 2 months ago for a Z3100.

As for the built in spectro, I've found it quite useful. Perhaps the more recent firmware update makes it work better than last winter, I dunno. But I've been enjoying the prints I've been getting.
