Re: HP PRINTERS. Anyone use them?.

Hi Brunel,

I just bought a HP P9180 to replace a fouled up Epson R1800 while CompUSA sent a replacement under the warranty plan. I have always liked HP b&w prints and general lack of banding.

I haven't had much of a chance to use it yet, but it looks like it should work as a fine replacement. I will keep you posted once I've had more time to work with it.

One annoying thing I can tell you about is that Qimage doesn't work properly with the HP print driver (PS and Lightroom are fine). Every time you spool a job it resets the print driver to the default color settings. I plan to post more about this soon to see if Mike has a fix.

Re: HP PRINTERS. Anyone use them?.

I have been using the 9600 & 7600 for several years and I am in the process of switching over to the HP Z3100 for my stuido. So far, the HP has been taking up space in my office (I am waiting for Colorbyte to update their RIP for the new HP's). However, the new HP seems to be a really big improvement. So far I am really impressed with HP - the machine seems really well build. I really hesitated switching from Epson.

PS - I have a 7600 & 9600 for sale if anyone is interested.

We also have an HP B9180 photo printer. It prints beautiful 13x19 prints, as well as 11x14 and 8x10. No problems.........yet.

We use the Shinko C1245 for on site 5x7 and 8x10 printing.

Hi.

Yes, after my Epson R2400 clogged beyond repair, and would take too long to get fixed, I had to get a HP B9180 to finish a print job for a show. No problems at all with this machine. It seems a lot more robust than Epson. Using HP gloss paper and CS it prints what the monitor shows. Not sure about Matt paper as I've only tried Epson Heavyweight in A3 size and it lacks punch. tried to up the contrast in CS but the shadows blocked up. The ink seems to last forever - but the tanks are bigger. Only 3 drawbacks so far: 1) It has to be left permanently switched on - does a self clean every day. 2) There's a socking great blue light on the front that lights up the street. 3) Impossible to get any paper other than Gloss in the shops - UK. Otherwise I like it.

Re: HP PRINTERS. Anyone use them?.

I've been using an HP DJ130 for a bit over a year, and just got a Z3100. I love the 3100 although I'm having some weird issues with the print driver dialog. However, the results are great, and I've been enjoying printing on Somerset Velvet, Crane's Museo, some Strathmore papers (more like board), and even some Japanese papers. The main reason the printer was purchased was to be able to recreate documents from our museum's archives to be used in the museum, and the struggle has been to find papers that will replicate (if not duplicate) the look of old documents.

But for art printing, this thing really looks nice!

I used Epsons (700, EX, 750, 1270) until I switched to a $100 HP printer with Vivera dye inks. The HP printers are so economical and clog-free, when it came time to buy a real large format printer HP just had to be it.

I'd really like to get a 9180 for printing at home, although the size of the Z3100 at work may have me spoiled! Maybe a 2100...
