Colors Off With Epson 4800 After Photoshop CS2 9.0.1 Upgrade

Upgraded Photoshop CS2 to v9.0.1 and it has caused skin tones to come out orange/salmon colored where they were rosy/pink a week before printing from the same files on an Epson 4800 with Epson Premium Luster paper.

Epson says it's the fault of 9.0.1. Adobe says just print using "Let Printer Decide" color management, which works OK.

So now I can't let PS "Determine Colors" and I can't use any custom profiles. Other solution suggested by Epson & Adobe is to uninstall 9.0.1 and reinstall 9.0. Don't want to go through that nightmare.

Any suggestions, anyone else seen had this problem?

Here is a link to Adobe forum discussing print problems with v 9.0.1 and Mac os versions.

I have not read any problems like this w/Win os, but there are a couple of other Win/9.0.1 issues.

yes, i have a 7800 and have had this problem. what a pain in the &*^! brutal posterization in skin tones! At the time my PS update was auto so i didnt have a clue why it was happening.

i spent all night trying to fix it for a clients proofs and had to just let printer decide colors which worked ok.

i think i am just going to wait until the new upgrade fixes this.

Thanks for the feedback.
I also spent 2 days trying to fix prints. Ending up using let "Printer Determine Colors."
Anyways, it's a real bug - see: http://www.computer-darkroom.com/pwp_901/pwp_901_1.htm
Seems we have to jury rig to "Let PS Determine Colors," or wait for Adobe/Apple to make the fix.

Re: Colors Off With Epson 4800 After Photoshop CS2 9.0.1 Upgrade

I never saw the problem and discovered that I have "let printer determine color" for years. An Epson tech told me to do that a long time ago and I have never changed. I did once experiment with Photoshop colors and choosing the precise paper, etc, but never equalled "let printer..."
The only better pictures I have produced are with ImagePrint. But that's another story. Photoshop 9.0.1 doesn't affect ImagePrint.
Sometimes it pays to be dumb!

WOW!!

I just now discovered why my old 9800 profiles were all a little green, or even the before-mentioned orange, after up-grading to 9.0.1!!!!!!

I guess I'll have to go re-do all my Eye1 profiles again. Oh well, just like the old days of having to adjust for a new upgrade of paper from Kodak or Fuji.

Re: Colors Off With Epson 4800 After Photoshop CS2 9.0.1 Upgrade

So, let me get this straight, the morning I wake up nice and early to upgrade my Mac to 10.4.6 I spend half the morning reading articles on how it fouls up printing to an Epson 4800 with Photoshop 9.0.1. I read this doesn't happen with Mac 10.4.6 and Photoshop 9 or Mac 10.3.9 and Photoshop 9.0.1, it only creates a problem with the latest Mac OS (10.4.6) and with the latest version of Photoshop 9.0.1.

So, it looks like I will procrastinate some more before upgrading my main workstation. Too bad the Photoshop testers let this one slip! Thanks to all who posted on this topic it has saved me a bit of frustration this morning.
