| Canon i9900 head scratching (abrasion) problems
I recently picked up a Canon i9900 (i9950 in UK?) and am seeing problems with abrasion on various papers. I first noticed it on the Epson Heavyweight Matte (13x19")- It usually occurs toward the end of the page, and looks like little white lines scratched horizontally about an inch long. It seems that the print head is contacting the paper & the ink is rubbed off. Also, when the abrasion is happening you can hear the print head making contact as it passes back and forth.
I've also see this when printing on 8.5x11" sheets of Ilford Smooth Pearl and Glossy; doesn't happen *every* time, but maybe every third print if you're printing almost full sheet (like, 10.5x7").
I HAVE turned on "prevent paper abrasion", and that seems to work 90% of the time, and when it does happen it's on the Epson 13x19 toward the very end of the page (say, when printing 12x18"). I have *not* had a chance to try this on Canon 13x19" paper (or even their 8.5x11") - I plan on picking some up. My thought is that if the abrasion happens even on their paper then I've got a real problem.
Can anyone share any thoughts on this, besides the obvious "you should've gone with the Epson 2400 in the first place!"? [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]
Is there any way to adjust the head clearance, or is this typical on non-Canon papers?  |
