| i9900 prints dark on Canon Pro paper, with reddish tint I have a strange issue that, after over a year, cannot be resolved by Canon. I did, however, find a workaround if anyone else has this issue: When I have a perfectly exposed/color-corrected shot and print it using Canon Photo Record on the i9900 and with Canon Photo Paper "Pro" glossy paper (any size 4x6 to 13x19), the output is about 1/3 - 1/2 of a stop darker than it should be and has a reddish tint.
Yes, I set the paper selection to Canon Photo Paper Pro in the Photo Record software and the inks are all perfect (I replaced all the inks a few times before I finally discovered the work-around). I even sent the files to a pro lab and then printed from my Smugmug account to ensure the issue was with the i9900 and the Photo Paper Pro setting.
With lots of experimenting, I found that if I use the same Canon Photo Paper Pro paper in the i9900 but set the Photo Record software to Canon Photo Paper "Plus" Glossy paper, the image prints exactly as it looks...perfect. The Photo Paper Plus paper and the Photo Paper Plus setting in Photo Record yields the same color matched and quality result. For those who might try it, the Ilford Gallery series paper works outstandingly well with the standard Glossy paper setting, FWIW. Go figure. Just do not set Photo Record to the Photo Paper Pro setting!
Does anyone have an explanation for why Photo Record and the i9900 yield the darker images when using Photo Paper Pro? I do not use CS2 or other programs for printing as I like the control the and custom albums Canon Photo Record software provides. |
