Re: 4800 grain versus 4000 problem

Zach,

I echo what other have already told you. We run 4800's for images all the way to 16x24 and don't see any "grain". If your alignment tests look good, I would look to the drivers, and to the settings that you are using. Have you run a cleaning cycle? all it takes is 2 or 3 clogged nozzles for prints to look bad. Finally make sure that the media that you are using is compatible. Does the "grain" appear like tiny wet blobs on the surface of the paper when the print is fresh out of the printer?

E.

Re: 4800 grain versus 4000 problem

These crops are approximately a 1/3 of an inch. I have tested the heads and they are not clogged, and a full alignment has been done as well. The dot structure is visible when the print is about 6 inches from my face, so I have to look close. I have seen this on many different papers which I tested so its not the media. This is seen when both in 1440 and 2880.

Is it possible for someone to post a scan of a 1/3 inch crop at 100% for comparison. This would be much appreciated.

Re: 4800 grain versus 4000 problem

might also be an ImagePrint issue. You ought to run some prints out through the normal Epson driver. I have a 9800 and 4000 and don't see anything remotely like what you're showing here when comparing output between the two printers.

Thinking off the wall here, but is it possible that one of the ink carts is defective or in the wrong slot?

Re: 4800 grain versus 4000 problem

Well I have to admit I don't know what my prints would look like if I scanned one and blew up a 1/3" chunk to 100%. I don't think I want to know. I can say that I see no offensive grain with close naked eye inspection.
