First event with laptop, PS7 and Kodak 1400

Hi Folks,

I wonder if any of you can help with a problem I came up against last Friday night at my first go at event printing on site. It was a small Year 11 prom ( = High School prom for thise in the USA...) with about 70 kids in attendance, so I didn't need any whizz-bang event kit (so I thought).

I'm shooting away, my assistant (wife) is showing the kids the shots and, when they approve, she's pressing the print button. I had written some actions for PS7 to insert two 8 x 6 pics into a template document to print two pics on one sheet of the 1400's 8.5 x 14 media (medium?)

Towards the end of the night she was having to wait way too long for the little box which says it's printing to disappear so she could review the nexts kids' pic. Slowed us down quite a bit.

I checked the printer queue and there wasn't one as we were keeping up, or rather the 1400 was keeping up with us.

Anyone seen the same thing?

Can anyone tell me I'm a spoon and should have clicked the grunge-nurdle thingy?

Many thanks in advance

Tom,

I'm afraid I don't quite understand the problem, other than printing was taking a long time. However, you also mentioned that the Kodak 1400 printer was keeping up with you. If you could explain in more detail exactly what was happening, I'll try to help you.

Re: First event with laptop, PS7 and Kodak 1400

Hi Bob,

Very kind of you to take the trouble. I've just asked my assistant to clarify..

We've got two pics inserted into a template by some actions. Then we send it to print and a little box comes up saying that it is sending to kodak 1400.

This was taking about a minute to disappear, and all the while the egg timer is spinning round so she couldn't open file browser or do anything.

By, the printer is keeping up, I mean that when the box had finally disappeared I checked the printer queue to see if there were loads of pics waiting to print , and there weren't.

As I type this, a litle bell is ringing in my head, Bob. - Back in a tick....

Yes, I am being a plank!

The actions create a .psd file - a photoshop file, with two layers, which is 48MB in size. no wonder it took so long to get to the printer.

I just need to get the action to flatten it to a .jpg and all will be well. I hope...

Thanks anyway

Tom,

I suspect that you've found the problem. Before Photoshop can release the print job, the Windows GDI must render the image for the printer driver. In this case, Photohop/Windows have some serious work to do to flatten the image to get it ready to hand off to the driver.

Good luck with your printer.

Bob
