Card Stock for Promos?

Hello,
Using an Epson 1280 and Mac OSX, I want to print some promo pieces on a thick-type paper stock. I normally print on Epson Heavyweight Matte paper and am happy with the results, but it is not the thickness that I desire.
I have tried a couple of Adorama papers to test for thickness: the Double-Sided Card Stock, which is about 190 GSM, and their supposedly fine art paper which is 300 GSM. Both produce textured and grainy results, nothing like the smooth look of the Epson Heavyweight Papers.
I believe Epson suggests that the thickest media to be put through the Epson 1280 is about 250 GSM. Is this accurate and do any of you print thick promos with the 1280, and with what papers?
Thanks.
Patrick
