What do you think. Could this be an Epson killer? Archival black and white and color photo high end photo printer:

It does look very nice. The one thing holding me back from jumping into a HP system is that there isn't much experience out there yet about using these HP printers with third-party papers. I'd like to know how they perform, because I like to have lots of paper options! (In contrast, there's tons of experience floating out there from folks using the Epson ultrachrome inks with third-party papers of all different surfaces.) Once it's been demonstrated that the quality and archivability hold up thru a wide range of papers, I'll be sold.

While I have an HP7960 and am very satisfied with it's b&w capability, I don't think the professional market will respond well to the the 8750's 3-color cartridges. Also, Eric's point about the poor choice of papers is well-taken.

Who cares about other papers, given that HP's papers are excellent.

Fine art printers care a lot about papers, regardless of how excellent the manufacturer's papers are. Epson also makes several excellent papers, but many fine art printers enjoy using third-party papers such as Hahnemühle Photo Rag, Moab Entrada Fine Art Natural, Arches Infinity, and Ilford Smooth Pearl, to name a few. Different papers have different characteristics, not just in terms of tonality and color gamut, but also in texture, surface, and weight. Some are available in more sizes and weights than others.

I know of several top notch landscape photographers printing exclusively on HP Premium Photo Plus Satin. The current "fine art" trend of printing on flat ultra matte surfaces is a fad IMO. I never saw prints of the great masters - Adams, Avedon to name two, in anything but pearl or semigloss papers.
