a question to Bob Collette on the 9810

Hey Bob... I was wondering about something with the new 9810 dye-sub. It state in the release that it is able to print 5x7's with borders -- I assume that they come out looking alot like the prints from the old sony upd50/5500 printers I am currently stuck using for 5x7's at events (they are sheet fed, printing 5x7 on 6x8 paper, leaving about .5" on every side) -- but there is no mention of the printers' speed at doing anything smaller than 8x10's. Is there any further info you can give regarding this spec, as if it can spit out 5x7's in competitive times to even last years crop of dedicated 5x7 printers (oh, say in the low 20-second range), I might just replace all the printers I currently use (all 4 of the old sony 5x7's -- which are long overdue for retirement to backup status -- and the 2 kodak 8500's I use for 8x10 stuff) with a quartet of the 9810's (I treasure the idea of having the same printer doing all the prints, as color calibration would be SO simple -- inventory control as well... having to track supplies for 3 different types of printers is a pain).

oh... also, is this new baby as easy to clean? (I work in dustbowls often lol)

Bill,

Let me check on the 5x7 print speed. I've been on vacation all week, just returning home today. I'll try to get that info for you next week when I return to work.

Bob

Re: a question to Bob Collette on the 9810

Yesterday, I spoke to one of the engineers working on the printer, asking him about the 5x7 print time. He said that he didn't know (all his work has been with the 8x10 & 8x12 print sizes). He said that he was going to try to find out. I reminded him again today, and he said he's working on it.

I'd test it myself, however I don't have a printer. I'll let you know as soon as I have an answer.

Bob

Re: a question to Bob Collette on the 9810

I asked again today about the 5x7 print time, and was told that it hasn't been measured yet. Apparently the printer driver, while it will support 5x7 printing when the product is released, currently only supports 8x10 & 8x12 printing. So, until the driver gets updated to add 5x7 support, I can't give you an answer.

I'll post the 5x7 print speed as soon as it has been measured.

Bob
