Piezography

I recently puchase a piezography system containing a 1280 Epson printer already setup with the piezo ink a disk with drivers, ink and the epson software.

I was able to install the Epson printer without a problem, however when I select the printer all I get is the driver which shows the cartridge as being empty, and nothing happens, and the piezography disk only seems to contain paper profiles, and not a driver or plugin, sould somebody please enlight me so that the computer can see the printer as a piezography unit.

Many thanks

Hugh

Re: Piezography

I don't have the answer, but I've been interested in Piezography and was referred to this Yahoo Group that might be able to help you: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/piezography3000/

Re: Piezography

Thank Michael, I have check that one without much seccess.

Although I now have the machine working, just have to work out the quarks of the machine and find the type of paper that I like. I like what I have printed so far.

Thanks

Hugh

Re: Piezography

Hugo,

I've used Piezography for years and have a few suggestions. Some may seem obvious, but worth a try.

The first is: What version of Piezography are you using? The new ICC or the Photoshop pluggin?

2) Since it sounds as though you bought the system used, perhaps the ink cart truly IS empty and you need to purchase new ones. That said, it's not a bad idea to purchase replacements anyway, but make sure you aren't using the older formulation and decide to stick in the new ones, You need cleaning carts if that is the case. Also, because the 1280 uses "chipped" carts, there may be a malfunction here and new carts would have you starting from scratch.

3) Take the carts out of the printer, as you would if they were empty and needed replacement, and reinstall/reseat them. The contacts may have become jostled and aren't properly seated.

4) You didn't say what OS you run (XP or Mac), but in the XP driver windoe, there's an option for turning off two-way communication with the printer. This is not really recommended, but might be useful as a trouble shooting setting.

Hope this helps.

Nemo

Re: Piezography

Thanks Nemo,

The system that I purchased is build around the ICC profiles, and after sitting down and reading the manual I got it to work, the rest I believe is practise and finding the type of papers that suits my pictures best. I use XP as the operating system, and aside from some banding that I'm getting on the prints I'm fairly satisfied with my purchase.

One question that I do have is how to best protect the prints if I place them on an album, what kind of lacquer or lamination do you recomend.

Thanks

Hugo
