Epson 2000p???

I am looking into buying a refurbed Epson 2000p. This would be my first wide format, archival printer and would like some encouragement. Is this a good printer compared to the Epson 2200. I realize that the 2200 has separate inks and higher resolution. I just want to know if the 2000p can produce dynamite prints and not break the bank on the ink. The refurbed 2000p is going for around $250 and the 2200 is at least $600 and not in my budget.

Thanks
Paul

Pass on this pup. The ink set was pretty awful exhibiting what's called metamerism (prints will produce different color appearance based on the light you view them under). The 2200 does this to a lesser degree but the 2000P will drive you crazy. Get the 2200.

Re: Epson 2000p???

The 2200 is great, and pretty easy on ink. There is a slight amount of bronzing on luster and gloss papers with it though. It really shines on matte paper, which is what I prefer. There are other printers with less of a bronzing issue, like my lowly Epson 820, but it's a smaller format and goes thru color cartridges like no one's business! Watch for factory refurb 2200's on the epson web page ($549) and that includes a USB cable and free shipping. B&H usually has them for the same price, but no cable and you'll pay about $30 shipping. I'd buy the 2200 again in a minute! Be sure to check out www.atlex.com for ink and paper. The 2200 cart. are $8.90 each from them. Fast service and reasonable shipping charges.

If you're looking for an Epson 2200, you might check out Dell. A refub 2200 from Epson costs $549 plus $30 shipping and I bought a new one from Dell for $611.09 including shipping ($679 less 10%). I ordered it on a Friday and it was delivered on a Monday.

Re: Epson 2000p???

Hi Paul,
I have a 2000p and I like it. Yes it does suffer with metamerism as do ALL printers using pigmented inks. Some printers are worse than others unfortunately the 2000p is one of the bad ones. However, once you find out how to deal with it, it's not as bad as everyone makes out. In my opinion what is worse is that this printer is oh! so slow. So if you can, go for the 2200. Also why not have a look at the 1270/1290 printers. They perform well and for longevity you can use Lyson inks.

Regards
