Fake Canon Ink?

I recently bought some ink cartridges for my Canon S9000 at the local Staples. As I was preparing to put ink in the printer, I noticed that a couple of the cartridges were in packaging that is significantly different than the cartridges I have been getting for the last year or so. Has Canon changed the packaging for the BCI-6 ink cartridge lineup, or did I just get some counterfeit ink?

The cartridge and box on the left is the normal package I'm used to seeing, the one on the right is the one I'm suspicious of.

Re: Fake Canon Ink?

Funny, I just bought exactly the same cartridge yesterday and had the same thoughts. However, I bought in a large European electronic chain store in Switzerland and I don't think they would fall for fakes. The earlier packaging was a bit confusing when trying to find the right cartridge in a drawer full, so maybe the new one is better, though I don't yet see the significance of the "6". I had been hoping Canon would come out with more permanent inks, but there is no note of it on the package so I guess this isn't it.

Hi,

I have seen both types of packaging in the UK as well. So far, I have not observed any difference in terms of output.

Re: Fake Canon Ink?

I went into my local Staples today and opened up the cover on their i960, it had the ink tanks with the 6 on them. So it just looks like new packaging.

I had the same impression yesterday. My guess is that the prominent "6" will help pick out what one needs when looking at the shelves full of similarly colored / patterned boxes.
