Cheapo Epson inkjet carts????

Well we all know that the price barrier has been broken by the Chinese. They have come up with the secret Epson cart. chip to make for some inexpensive cartridges for the Epson 1270/ 1280 series affordable. My question is......".do they work". Recently I tried out some "yellow box"( no brand) type of ink. The black ink was great after I finally changed the contrast and brightness on the Epson control panel. The black was rich and solid black on matte paper; however the color T009 cartridge replacement was terrible. I have yet to achieve the correct color even after playing with the color adjustments on the EPSON color panel.
Is this worth the effort I am asking. What degree of success have you people had with those off the shelve non Epson carts.
Having "cheap" cartridges sure makes having 13 x 19 A + paper prints that dont cost a fortune.
