• I was regularly printing large fairly posters (perhaps 72" x 48"), for a demanding use, from high-resolution images provided to me by another photographer (perhaps 5616 x 3744 px images from a Canon EOS 1Ds Mark II), and
• The actual available pixel resolution of my printer was, for example, 180 px/inch (so that an image at the input to the printer driver of 12,960 x 8640 px was needed, as we will not leave uprezing up to the printer driver), and
• if I believed that, for example, Genuine Fractals or something produces a more handsome image in that situation than the interpolation algorithms available in Qimage,
then I would buy Genuine Fractals and do the uprez here with it, taking the image from the provider as he had it.
If I didn't think Genuine Fractals or something would do a better job than the interpolation algorithms in Qimage, I would again take the image from the provider just as he had it and turn it over to Qimage.
So, again, I would never ask the provider to "uprez" the file before sending it to me.
And, as I said before, if a "client", evidently without benefit of any understating of the issue here, asks me to be sure to only submit images at a resolution of 300 px/in, I will certainly accommodate him.
We are gradually getting local newspapers and magazines to understand this!
Best regards,
Doug
