Re: CS4: super slow? what's going on?

In the PC version you can actually shut off the Open GL drawing, and Photoshop reverts back to the older methodology, which is still in there.

Assuming the Mac version has the same checkboxes, have you tried that, Kevin?

Re: CS4: super slow? what's going on?

Noel, thanks, I looked and the checkbox is greyed out, so I assume I'm out of luck. I'm on a four-five year old G5 dual 1.8.
It fine except for this issue. It's got several years of life. I'll not killing it for CS4.
I'm returning the software.

Re: CS4: super slow? what's going on?

If it's greyed out, the CS4 doesn't like the current version of the OS or video driver or both. Since you are on a Mac, I can't really suggest which to upgrade. The video driver has to support Open GL 2.0 which many older cards don't. However if it's the OS, then the only way to get the open GL to work would be upgrade. This is the case with Windows 64 bit OS, you pretty much have to be running Vista 64 bit to get the Open GL to work.

Since yours is greyed out, you might try enableing "bigger tiles". it may or may not help. I know it helps on the moving the image around on the screen at 100% view. Bigger Tiles is a plug in that is not loaded by default and you can find in on the CS4 DVd under "goodies".

Re: CS4: super slow? what's going on?

I understand your decision, Kevin. Without the UI enhancements CS4 doesn't really bring THAT much to the party to be honest with you.

The content aware scaling is a "gee whiz" sales feature I'll bet nobody ever really uses, and while Photomerge has been improved it WAS actually possible to get good stitching jobs with CS3. Other things, like the new way adjustment layers work will actually cost you some time to relearn how to use them, without much benefit. And even if you configure CS4 to use windowed documents, if you drag files into it the damned thing will use the new "whole screen" metaphor anyway. Of all the changes I consider that the most frustrating.

Noel, I totally agree with you. There is very little about CS4 I can't live without. The Bridge upgrade is actually more important to me.

Re: CS4: super slow? what's going on?

Seemed to have hit another roadblock.
I went to uninstall CS4, but Adobe seems to have chaine linked Bridge (which I want to keep) to uninstalling with CS4.

Any ideas on this? and what think about this?

They are such different apps, I can't fathom my Adobe forces Bridge to unintall with PHotoshop

Adobe Photoshop CS4
Adobe Illustrator® CS4
Adobe Flash® CS4 Professional
Adobe Dreamweaver® CS4

Adobe Premiere® Pro CS4
Adobe Encore® CS4
