Lightroom 2.0 & XP Pro 64 Bit

Hi,

Does Lightroom 2.0 support Windows XP Pro 64 Bit?
I have downloaded the 30 day trial and installed it. I thought it would be placed in the Program Files folder, however, it is in the Program Files (x86) folder. Does this mean that it has installed in 32 Bit mode?
I have 8GB RAM crying out to be used and dont want to splash €300+ unless it will use it. I may as well stay with 1.4 for now. Am I interpreting this correctly? Is there a way to check?

All help appreciated........

Anthony.

Hi Martin,

Thanks for that.
I have just uninstalled the 32 Bit version and installed the 64 Bit as per the instructions. Hope it speeds things up.

Thanks

Anthony

Hi Martin,

Thanks for that link. I'm in the process of getting an XP x64 system up and running, so this piece of information is going to be quite handy.

Re: Lightroom 2.0 & XP Pro 64 Bit

Hi Anthony,

Does the 64-bit edition of Lightroom 2.0 seem to run faster on your XP Pro x64 system than it does on an XP Pro 32-bit system? I'd be interested to hear your comments.

I've got my XP Pro x64 system running, but still have to install the main applications that I use. It's taking me a while to be able to access the same data using both XP Pro and XP Pro x64, as there was a bit of disk repartioning, reconfiguring, copying of data and synchronising of backups that needed doing. Hopefully I'm on the home stretch now...

Re: Lightroom 2.0 & XP Pro 64 Bit

Hi Witold,

I have it running a few days now and have not had a great deal of time to play with it. My initial impressions are that it is still slow. I have tried playing with some of the new tools in Lightroom eg the brush tool. When I use the brush I notice that I have painted and area and there is a delay before the effect becomes visible on screen. Changing from one module to an other also causes a delay. I have not imported any files yet, so I cannot comment on that. The PC should be more than able to handle LR2 as it is Core 2 Quad Q6600 (4 x 2.4 GHz) with 8GB RAM and its overclocked (Sounds good anyway).Maybe it is time to scrub the machine and reload everything as despite my best intentions, the PC has become loaded with c**p and generally appears to be slowing.

I love LR and would like to have it blaze along as I use PS less and less now except for extreme editing.

Regards,

Anthony,

Re: Lightroom 2.0 & XP Pro 64 Bit

Anthony,

While it's possible that crud on your computer is bogging it down, it's important to keep your expectations in line for Lightroom: the way Lightroom does things internally is radically different than Photoshop, and many operations will feel different. Slow, even. The local adjustments brush can be particularly slow. But the way Lightroom does things also leads to new efficiencies. It's a completely different beast.

Martin
