Re: Lightroom 2.0 & XP Pro 64 Bit

Hi Martin,

Would you suggest that I stick with it for a while (28 days left) before going down the 'reformat route'?
There are programmes that could be deleted from the machine at this stage, free trials etc. but what about Mr. Registry? Have you suggestions for clearing that or is it as big an issue as some websites like to portray?
Are there any other things I could do to speed things up perhaps in LR preferences?
Do I need to have the library file and the programme on the one drive for speed? I have all programmes on C: while My Docs live on another internal drive (F:\). While this helps me with backup as everything is contained in F:\My Docs does it contribute to slowing LR?

Thanks fo the help,

Anthony.

I have to defer to folks like Noel Carboni on the Windows optimization stuff. I left the Windows world behind some years ago.

If anything, I would hazard a quess that having LR and your photos on two different disks might actually speed up LR. The operating system's disk I/O would then be on one drive, separated from LR's disk I/O on the other drive with the photos. LR's doing a lot of processing to get an image to update and display with the current set of edits, so that's going to tax memory and CPU to some degree.

My LR 2.0 installation under XP Pro x64 seems to be noticeably zippier when it comes to displaying previews. It looks about as fast as some Mac laptops that I have seen working in demonstrations.

Still, LR 2.0 x64 edition seems to be noticeably more responsive. I haven't imported any photos yet though, so that will be another test that I'll get to do in due course. I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised. Only time will tell...
