CS3 & Mac workspace query

This may be a very basic question but bear with me. I've recently changed from a Pc to a Mac, today I got my new CS3 and installed it. How do I get a workspace like the one I had in CS2 on Pc where it actually has a background? On the Mac I have the pallettes floating above my desktop with the desktop icons showing through which is a bit distracting.

Change your Screen Mode to Full Screen Mode With Menu Bar (located in the View menu).

Thanks Kiran, is there any way to keep this "view" when CS3 is opened as at present the background only appears when there is an open image file, I've tried to save the workspace but it just defaults to the "open" screen view.

Nope. That is one of the differences between Windows and Mac in general. In almost any Mac application you will see the desktop if there is no document open.

Also, if the other apps you have open are distracting, you can choose to "Hide Others" under the application menu (in this case under the main "Photoshop" item) pull down. You'll then see whatever desktop image/color/pattern you've selected for your screen image. A nice neutral gray works for me.

I'm with you Kevin, I find that hard to deal with when looking over the shoulder of my Mac-using buddy, even though when I run Photoshop on my own PC I move all the palettes off the main window and onto my second monitor. I've had too many years with the PC GUI I suppose.
