I have recently upgraded to CS3, the problem that I am experiencing is that the program keeps crashing. When editing I can perform either one task or a couple than the dialog box appears that the program has had a problem occur and will need to close. I have removed CS several times and reinstalled with same results.
I am currently using a windows box with xp, I have used past CS without any problems. When I can make it through an image I love the results. However I have removed CS3 from the CPU and have gone back to CS2.
Here is what happens, open pix, make first adjustment by crop, or filter, or copy and than the error message appears. Sometimes I can completely make it through several photos before the problem happens again. The error occurs on any given adjustment so I have a hard time narrowing it down to a specific command. The error message is a widows based error, and the only info from the error message states that an error has occured within the program and needs to close. Do you want to send this info or not? and do you want to debug?. Any suggestion could help.. If you need more info about this problem I will give you what I can..

All I can think of off hand is to make sure your Windows is updated to the latest mods. I don't think there is an update for CS3 yet. I have just updated to CS3 from CS, and so far no problems, although occasionally I have a really slow running system, which requires a reboot, but no crashes.

I work mostly on Macs and so not familiar with Window's error vocabulary, but experience has showed me that performing a thorough clean-up of an old application ( CS3 seems specially demanding on that regard) usually is the best place to start. Here is a link to Adobe's recommended behavior, and to an Adobe users discussion on the subject. It solved my CS3 install problem after using the demo for the last 4 months ....
Photoshop CS3 is slightly more buggy than earlier (patched) versions. That said, you should not be seeing crashes as quickly as you describe. It's not typical; I usually can edit all day with CS3 and not have a crash.
Check these things:
* Is your memory sound? Run diagnostics to be sure.
* Are you using old plugins? CS3 seems to fail more often with old plugins.
* Check/change your Photoshop memory allocation, under Edit - Preferences - Performance.
Thanks guys I am going to use your information to get to the bottom ogf this issue. My plug in are current, however I read somewhere that keeping cs2 installed could cause problems with cs3. Has anyone heard of this???

I have both CS2 and CS3 installed and I'm having no problems.
I think you'd do well to take advantage of your complimentary tech support with Adobe. Chances are good they've seen the problem before and can direct you to a fix based on the error message you're getting.
