Lightroom Photo Tour

Today I attended Scott Kelby’s Lightroom Tour. Scott is the president and co-founder of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP).

The course provides an excellent macro and micro view of how Lightroom works, its integration with CS3, and the actual workflow from image capture through printing.

Scott started the course with an actual live “photo session” of a bride. We then spent virtually the entire day walking through each module of Lightroom and applying the software to the images from the opening photo session. As appropriate we went in and out of both Lightroom and CS3. The session concluded with printing the images from the shoot on an Epson 3800.

For the ten minute close/summary, Scott conducted a new photo session (30 images), sorted the images, added key words and identified the “hero” image. He processed the picture in Develop Module, and ended the summary with the printing of a 16x20 image. All of this was completed in ten minutes. Ten minutes!! And we were not rushed.

Scott Kelby is a terrific instructor. He is thorough, entertaining, and importantly communicates clearly. I strongly recommend this course to anyone interested in quickly learning Lightroom, its integration with CS3 and importantly the advantages of printing through Lightroom. The course provides a solid ROI for the time and dollars invested ($79US).

While I have not attended this particular seminar- I have seen Scott twice this year- Imaging USA and ISAP VII.

ISAP was a small room and Scott customized his presentation on the fly and never missed a beat. If he is in your town and covering a topic you want to learn about- pay the fee, its worth it.

One other plus- since Scott writes so many books and articles you never have to worry about taking notes. He has PDFs with crystal-clear instructions that follow exactly what he was doing step for step in the live presentation.
