Flash menus

Has anyone got any links to some good websites with dynamic navigation? I'm getting a new website built and I'm going to use some elements of flash (menu & gallery) but I'm looking for some examples so that I can pass them on to my web guy and say "I like that type of thing" or even "I hate that!"

Re: Flash menus

Don't use Flash for structural and navigational tasks!

I know how one can create flashy [sorry] elements for Web sites with Adobe Flash but the technology - Adobe's own misuse not withstanding - is not suited to structuring and navigation. Even advertising agencies now start to see the light and use HTML again for Web site with Flash coming in for special purposes only.

Over the years I have seen so many Web sites being almost unusable because your browser's navigational elements do not work within a Flash site and the designer forgot to create full navigation (like Back, Forward) within Flash. Since Flash elements are embedded in the page, the address for every page within a Flash movie is the same as that of the parent - very bad.

Re: Flash menus

I have to agree with Dierk.... much better to use (x)HTML. There's one photographer's site I visit quite a bit and the flash is actually quite well done, but you have to jump through hoops every time the site loads to get anywhere. The first time it's cool.. but after that, it's a nuisance.

The other reason for not using Flash for navigation is that it makes it impossible for Google and other search engines to index your site, as they can't read flash and therefore can't follow the navigation.

Use HTML and keep Flash for movies or highly interactive, tightly coupled applications.

Cheers,

Mathew
